1. How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues?
My product uses conventions by using actual people instead of mannequins to model the clothes. It also uses conventions by having different angles. My product challenges conventions by using both genders in one commercial and I didn't use a green screen for my background. It represents social groups by helping people express themselves through clothing. It also allows videographers to perfect their craft. It represents social issues because there is a lack of representation for people of color in fashion, it promotes gender equality by having an equal amount of both gender models. It also promotes people of color in terms of commercials because most models that are shown are white.
2. How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text?
My product engages with audiences by showing the different types of clothing they can wear for different events. People simply love YouTube. It is used to watch music videos, comedy shows, how to guides, recipes, hacks and lots of other useful things. People my age also use it as a video-sharing service to follow their favorite vloggers, subscribe to other YouTubers and celebrities they are interested in. YouTube is useful because you can learn a lot from it and do a lot with it. When you in need of something to get done, go to YouTube. Social media really has changed the progression of creating businesses, getting your message out there, but overall just having a conversation about anything. Instagram is one of the most used social media platforms there is. You can either post something you want people to see on your story, you can post it on your actual page, or you can use Instagram TV to post what you want your followers to see.
3. How did your production skills develop throughout this project?
Before this project, my production skills were not that good because I have never done anything like this before. I went online and watched their advertisements so I can get ideas. I realized that there was way more from what I’d been seeing from the surface. This project has broadened my mind when regarding media and film. I learned that you get out what you put in. Whether it be the filming process or editing. I learned about the uncertainty of availability and that sometimes you must just go with the flow and use what you have.
4. How did you integrate technologies – software, hardware and online – in this project?
I integrated technologies by using the male model's phone to record and then everything was sent to my phone. The software that was used to edit this commercial was "Capcut". An iPhone 11 was used to film. I used Youtube and Blogger in this commercial, I uploaded the commercial onto Youtube and then exported it onto Blogger.
