Creative Critical Reflection
1. How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues?
My product uses conventions by having matching outfits like they did in the video. We also had dancing in our video like the original. We also switched outfits like their video. The product challenges conventions because the video times were different. Ours was one minute long and their's was three minutes and 56 seconds. They also had fighting scenes like the scenes from the movie Charlie's Angels, we did not. We also had more group members in regards to Destiny's Child. We had four group members for Destiny's Child but they only had three. It represents social groups because the song is about women empowerment. These women came together collectively to form a group to speak specifically about the issues amongst women that is dependency that is on the opposite gender. When women speak on an issue together instead of as separate individuals, it makes them seem more powerful and they reach their audience quicker. Being that they used music to do so, they were able to reach an even bigger audience such as myself and my friends. We chose this song, although it was released 11 years ago, it still stands for something. It represents social issues such as gender equality. They're showing how women can get the same things as men if they work for it. They're also switching women's mindsets so they don't depend on men at all like previous generations had to.
2. How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text?
My product engages with audiences because it reaches out to women who are under the poverty line because they want to level up. Women seeing the video let's them understand the point of not having to depend on men. It also helps women to know that settling for less is something they should never do. The video also shows them fighting men. This represents women taking back the power. It would be distributed as a real media text
My product engages with audiences by showing the different types of clothing they can wear for different events. People simply love YouTube. It is used to watch music videos, comedy shows, how to guides, recipes, hacks and lots of other useful things. People my age also use it as a video-sharing service to follow their favorite vloggers, subscribe to other YouTubers and celebrities they are interested in. YouTube is useful because you can learn a lot from it and do a lot with it. When you in need of something to get done, go to YouTube. Social media really has changed the progression of creating businesses, getting your message out there, but overall just having a conversation about anything. Instagram is one of the most used social media platforms there is. You can either post something you want people to see on your story, you can post it on your actual page, or you can use Instagram TV to post what you want your followers to see
3. How did your production skills develop throughout this project?
Before this project, my production skills were good because I had already done a commercial before this. We learned the steps of the music video production process and what exactly must take place in order to successfully create a music video. Technical difficulties weren't as present as last time. I went online and watched music videos and music films of all types. But this time I thought about them from a different perspective, I realized that there was way more from what I’d been seeing from the surface. This project had once again, broadened my mind when regarding media and film. I learned that you get out what you put in. Whether it be the filming process or editing. I learned about the uncertainty of availability and that sometimes you must just go with the flow and use what you have. You always have to have a backup plan because you never know what will happen. I learned how to better my communication skills and how to put arguments and standpoints I have in my mind on to a video. Since I was working in a group I had people to voice my opinions about the video to.
4. How did you integrate technologies – software, hardware and online – in this project?
Technologies were integrated by us recording on an iPhone 11 but then we all edited videos on our own phones. The hardware we used was Sarah's iPhone 11 to record. We all used different softwares to edit our videos before we decided which one we wanted to use. Sarah used iMovie, I used Capcut, St Flore used ClipChamp, and Julie used Openshot. The music video was eventually uploaded onto Youtube.
